From the time he was 14, Charles Miller knew there were two things in the world he was born to do, work with children and cook.

Charles grew up in an abusive home in New Jersey. After saving money for a year, he ran away to California at the tender age of 13. His secret was revealed while trying to enroll in school. Charles was placed in a boy's home in downtown Los Angeles. There he met Flossie, a cook from New Orleans, who taught him everything he knows about cooking.

Flossie taught him a lot of things. She taught him how to be a person and how to control his anger. She kept him in the kitchen where he learned how to make all kinds of dishes.

Time passed by and he got married with a lovely woman named Sharon. The Miller's have lived in San Carlos for 22 years. For those years they turned their home into a therapeutic Foster home. They usually had six boys at a time and had counselors and tutors to help them. They related to these children as people instead of numbers. The children had a chance to participate in "normal" activities, such as atten ake it like a family rather than and institution. Sharon, Charles and their two daughters, Valerie and Amber, shared their home, food and love with hundreds of troubled children. It was their unselfish way of giving back.

Charles and his wife opened Micha's in 1997. The restaurant was named after a little girl that the couple took care of. Her name is Tamisha and she is now going to college and living a normal life thanks to the love and support that the Miller's provided.

Charles Miller decided to retire in March 2005. He is currently traveling around the world and enjoying life. He stops by Micha's from time to time to say hi and visit friends that he has in various bands.

Alberto Gutierrez acquired Micha's Restaurant from Charles Miller in March 2005. He grew up in the Redwood City/San Carlos Area.

By the age of 10, Alberto always knew he wanted to own his own restaurant and at the age of 32 he accomplished it. Mr. Gutierrez comes from a long line of chefs. His grandfather was a chef in Mexico City and his father was a chef in Los Angeles, CA.

Alberto learned most of his cooking from his father. He also learned from the finest chefs in the bay area. For him, his dream hasn't been fulfilled yet. The dreams will keep going on every day as more and more people learn who and what Micha's is and what the restaurant is all about. As he said the other day: "I personally want to thank each and every one of the people who have stepped into Micha's to try our barbeque. It doesn't matter if you are a new or a frequent customer, I just wanted to say, thank you very much and I hope you enjoy our food as much as I love cooking it".

If you have any suggestions, comments, compliments or just the feeling of meeting Alberto, know that you are more than welcome at micha's restaurant, we will be glad to have you any time you want.
